Queen of Copy

Those who know me best may know that I am notorious for seeing something that I like while shopping, or in a magazine or online and instead of purchasing it, I snap as many pictures with my phone as I can or rip out the page, and then try to mimic it at home. Here is a recent example:
The eggs to the left are from "Parents" magazine. I thought that they were cute and a different take on decorating eggs for easter. The ones on above are my interpretation. Mmmmm....not quite the same effect. This is what happens about 50% of the time. It ends up being much harder than it looks and sometimes costs about the same as the original.

One successful imitation was a baby kimono from Martha Stewart. I made it for Sadi to wear to her 1st b-day Pink Party. She wore it with a pink tutu. It was pretty easy and well worth the effort. So worth the effort in fact that I would like to make another one but longer so it's a little kimono dress.

I think that I like to copy things for the same reason that I have a hard time creatively blogging. As a child, I suppressed any artistic abilities that I had, and I really did have a flair for it all. I did this because in 4th grade, my mom took me out of public school and put me in a charter school for the creatively endowed. I was so mad at her for taking me away from my friends and familiarity and trying to make me like what she liked, that I pretended to stink at drawing, painting and anything where I had to use my imagination until they put me back at good ole Forbes elementary. Heaven forbid a parent encourage their child's talents. I was stubborn as a youngin. Sorry Mom! I think that my aptitude for the arts is slowing making it's way back to the surface. I crave it! One of my greatest desires is for Sadi to see that I am passionate about the things that I do (and that perhaps I may be good at something). I have a list of projects that I would like to try so stay tuned...if any of them turn out I'll post some pics.

Darling! I just printed off that pattern from MS. Very impressed with the sewing ability- I had no idea you had it in you. Love the eggs!

Two things for which I envy you 1- you have a cute blog!
2-you are one of the most creative, talented people I know. I was the comp always trying to imitate you!

I love how you decorated your eggs, even better than the magazine in my humble opinion.

I love the little shirt you made! I want to do it too now. You are super creative and a great writer. Remember when you wrote for our "Souer News Letter"? Guptill sent me a copy of it the other day, I'll forward it on to you so you can see for yourself!

I hear you about supressing your artistic ability. I did the same thing. Only I did it because my older sister was really into, and my Mom was an artist and I wanted to be my own person so I purposly let it go. I don't think I can get it back now...

Yes, we totally suck. I'm not in Provo weekly anymore but let's not let that get in the way of us hanging out!
