fresh tomato sauce

I made this today.  With tomatoes ripe off the vine from my generous neighbors.  They are elderly and they do way more for me than I do for them.  I am lame.  Besides bringing in my garbage can every week, clearing the snow off my driveway in the winter, and helping me with sprinklers and what not, they give me lots of homegrown goods.  I recently came across a this recipe for DIY red sauce and immediately knew the fate of said tomatoes.

Here is what it looks like in the pot simmering{photo via smitten kitchen}:

Go here to get full recipe, via Smitten Kitchen.  If you appreciate it for what it is, fresh and kinda chunky monkey, you will find your pasta and your mouth begging for more.  I REALLY REALLY really loved it.  The flavors carmelized and, well, the essence that in and of itself infused made my spaghetti dreams come true.  Clint, not so much.  Not a fan of tomatoes.  Unless it's pureed.  Or Prego.  I don't take it personally.  More for me.
Oh, and, I didn't think it was too tedious.  Sure, it takes a little more time than opening a jar of store bought.  But nothing crazy.  And it's worth it.  I promise.
